Copiapoa cinerea albispina v. Northern Area of Taltal is a striking and rare local form of Copiapoa cinerea, occurring in the northern coastal zones near Taltal in Chile. This population thrives in the harsh yet fascinating landscapes of the Atacama Desert, where dense morning fog is often the only reliable source of moisture.
This variety is easily recognizable by its pale, silvery-white epidermis and the fine, ivory-colored spines ( albispina means "white-thorned"), which give the plant a luminous, almost ghostly appearance. The shoots are globular to short-columnar, with clearly defined ribs and neatly arranged areoles that form a harmonious, geometric pattern.
Over time , Copiapoa cinerea albispina v. Northern Area of Taltal can form small clumps, crowned in summer with delicate yellow flowers. Its elegant form, subtle coloration, and ability to withstand extreme drought make this plant a perfect symbol of desert aesthetics – and an essential, highly prized specimen for serious Copiapoa collectors.
