Lophophora diffusa, commonly known as false peyote, is a species of flowering plant in the cactus family and one of the only two species in the genus Lophophora. It is native to the outskirts of Querétaro in Mexico. This species contains no to trace amounts of mescaline; the main alkaloid is pellotin, the psychoactive effect of which is comparatively low. The species name diffusa refers to the flat bulbs that spread without the plant having distinct ribs.
