Lophophora diffusa v. Swobodaiana v. JJH 10296 (Entronque Peña, Miller, Querétaro, Mexico) is a highly specialized and rare form of Lophophora diffusa native to the arid regions near Entronque Peña in Querétaro. This population belongs to a locally restricted strain (v. Swobodaiana) documented and cataloged by cactus collector JJH under number 10296.
This variety is characterized by small, flat, button-like shoots, typically pale green with subtle grey tones. Unlike some other Lophophora species, the epidermis is smooth and soft, often with inconspicuous, woolly areoles scattered across the surface. It grows very slowly, forming compact, solitary buttons or small clumps over many years.
During the flowering period, delicate, pale pink to whitish flowers emerge from the crown, creating a gentle contrast to the muted stem color. Adapted to extremely dry, calcareous soils, this plant requires minimal water, bright but indirect sunlight, and well-drained substrate. Its rarity, subtle beauty, and highly localized origin make it a sought-after specimen for discerning Lophophora collectors.
