Lophophora fricii v. gigantea v. KS 198 (Viesca – Rocks Chapel, Coahuila, Mexico) is a rare and exceptional locally restricted form of Lophophora fricii originating from the rocky terrain near Viesca in Coahuila. The field number KS 198 designates this documented population, which is known for its unusually large, robust shoots – hence the name gigantea (“gigantic”).

This form typically develops large, flat to slightly convex shoots with a smooth, velvety epidermis in pale blue-green to grey-green tones. The surface is divided into broad, rounded tubercles, each areole bearing small tufts of white wool distributed symmetrically across the crown. Mature specimens often remain solitary for many years, but may eventually form larger groups.

During the flowering period, pale pink to light magenta flowers emerge from the central, woolly areoles, forming a delicate contrast to the robust, sturdy body. Adapted to calcareous, well-drained soils and dry conditions, this population exhibits slow growth, resilience, and remarkable longevity. Its imposing size, precise provenance, and elegant appearance make it a highly sought-after specimen for collectors of rare, locally specific Lophophora fricii.
