Copiapoa cinerea (Est. Tal Tal, Antofagasta, Chile) is a location-specific form of Copiapoa cinerea, native to the coastal desert region around Tal Tal in northern Chile.
This species typically develops spherical to short-columnar stems with a silvery-grey to grey-green epidermis that reflects intense sunlight and retains moisture. The body is divided into clearly defined ribs, each bearing small areoles from which short, sturdy spines emerge. As plants mature, they can form small clumps, creating a sculptural, structured appearance.
During its flowering period , Copiapoa cinerea (Est. Tal Tal) produces bright yellow flowers that emerge from the apex, creating a beautiful contrast to the muted shoot colors. Adapted to extreme drought, nutrient-poor, rocky soils, and intense sunlight, this population grows slowly but exhibits remarkable resilience – a particularly prized collector's item among enthusiasts of Chilean desert cacti.
