Trichocereus pachanoi v. variegated cristata (Echinopsis pachanoi, San Pedro cactus) is a spectacular, rare form of the classic Andean cactus, distinguished by two striking characteristics: the cristata growth form (comb-shaped, fan-like) and the variegata coloration (yellowish-white to cream-colored areas along the green cortex). This combination makes the plant a particularly decorative and sought-after collector's item.

The plant develops a fan-shaped, branching stem with undulating, irregular crests (cristae). The epidermis displays contrasting areas of green, cream, and yellow, created by the variegated pattern. Along the crests are small, regularly arranged areoles with short, white spines, producing a subtle, textured effect. This structure gives the plant a sculptural, almost surreal appearance.

During its flowering period, Trichocereus pachanoi v. variegated cristata can develop large, funnel-shaped, cream-colored to whitish flowers, which usually emerge from the tips of the ridges and offer an elegant contrast to the patterned stem. This population is particularly robust, adaptable to dry, well-drained soils, strong sunlight, and high altitudes in the Andes. Its unusual growth form, rare variegation, and sculptural appearance make it a highly prized specimen for collectors of exceptional Trichocereus forms.
