Copiapoa cinerea v. Est. de Tal Tal (Antofagasta, Chile) is a site-specific form of Copiapoa cinerea, native to the coastal desert region around Tal Tal in northern Chile.
This species typically develops spherical to short-columnar stems with a grey-green to silvery-grey epidermis that reflects intense sunlight and retains moisture in its extreme desert habitat. The body is segmented into clearly defined ribs, each bearing a small areole with short, stout spines. Mature plants often remain solitary for years or slowly form small clumps, creating a structured, sculptural appearance.
During its flowering period , Copiapoa cinerea v. Est. de Tal Tal produces bright yellow flowers that emerge from the apex, creating a striking contrast to the muted shoot colors. Highly adapted to arid conditions, rocky soils, and intense sunlight, this population grows slowly but exhibits remarkable resilience and is a highly prized collector's item for enthusiasts of Chilean desert cacti.
