Copiapoa cinerea v. Tal Tal (Antofagasta, Chile) is a site-specific form of Copiapoa cinerea, native to the coastal desert region around Tal Tal in northern Chile.
This species typically develops spherical to short-columnar stems with a silvery-grey to grey-green epidermis that reflects intense sunlight and retains moisture in its extreme desert habitat. The body is segmented into distinct ribs bearing small areoles with short, stout spines. Mature plants often remain solitary for many years or slowly form compact clumps, creating a sculptural, structured appearance.
During its flowering period, Copiapoa cinerea v. Tal Tal produces bright yellow flowers that emerge from the apex, providing a striking contrast to the muted stem colors. Highly adapted to extreme aridity, rocky, nutrient-poor soils, and intense sunlight, this population grows slowly but exhibits remarkable resilience and is a highly sought-after collector's item for enthusiasts of Chilean desert cacti.
