Copiapoa longistaminea (4–5 cm)

The photo shows several specimens of Copiapoa longistaminea (4–5 cm) in cactus substrate. The plants are shipped exclusively in perfect condition and without substrate. They originate from EU seed production and are 100% true to type.

Copiapoa longistaminea (Chile) is a rare and striking species of Copiapoa, native to the arid coastal deserts of northern Chile. It is particularly prized for its long, elegant stamens, which give the species its name (longistaminea = "long stamens"), as well as for its distinctive columnar growth habit.

The plant typically develops elongated, columnar shoots with a grey-green to bluish-grey epidermis. The body is segmented into pronounced ribs, each with areoles bearing short to moderately long spines. Mature plants can remain solitary for years or form small groups, creating a sculptural, architectural appearance.

During its flowering period, Copiapoa longistaminea produces large, funnel-shaped flowers, usually yellow, with exceptionally long stamens radiating from the apex, creating a striking floral display. Highly adapted to extreme aridity, intense sunlight, and nutrient-poor, rocky soils, this species grows slowly but exhibits remarkable resilience. Its tall, columnar form, long stamens, and classic Copiapoa desert adaptations make it a particularly sought-after specimen for collectors of Chilean desert cacti.
