Copiapoa Sarcoana (2cm, 4cm)
The photo shows several specimens of Copiapoa sarcoana (2 cm, 4 cm) in cactus substrate. The plants are shipped only in perfect condition and without substrate. They originate from EU seed cultivation and are 100% true to type.
Copiapoa sarcoana (Chile) is a rare and distinctive species of Copiapoa, native to the arid coastal deserts of northern Chile. It is particularly valued for its sculptural, spherical to slightly columnar shoots and its ability to withstand extreme desert conditions.
The plant typically develops thick, spherical stems with a grey-green to bluish-grey epidermis. The surface is divided into pronounced ribs, each with areoles bearing short, sturdy spines. Mature plants often remain solitary for years, but under optimal conditions can slowly form small clumps, creating a structured, architectural appearance.
During its flowering period, Copiapoa sarcoana produces bright yellow flowers at the apex, providing a striking contrast to its subdued body color. Highly adapted to extreme aridity, intense sunlight, and nutrient-poor, rocky soils, this species grows very slowly but exhibits remarkable resilience. Its compact form, sculptural aesthetic, and precise desert adaptations make it a highly sought-after specimen for collectors of Chilean desert cacti.
