Copiapoa cinerea (4–5 cm)
The photo shows several specimens of Copiapoa cinerea (4–5 cm) in cactus substrate. The plants are shipped exclusively in perfect condition and without substrate. They originate from EU seed production and are 100% own-root propagated.
Copiapoa cinerea (Chile) is one of the most iconic and sought-after species of the genus Copiapoa and is native to the arid coastal deserts of northern Chile, particularly in the region around Antofagasta. It is especially prized in desert collections due to its sculptural form, slow growth, and striking appearance.
This species typically develops globular to short-columnar stems with a silvery-grey to grey-green epidermis that reflects harsh sunlight and retains moisture in extremely arid habitats. The body is segmented into prominent ribs bearing small areoles from which short, stout spines emerge. As they age, larger specimens often remain solitary or slowly form small groups, creating a structured, architectural appearance.
During its flowering period, Copiapoa cinerea produces bright yellow flowers that emerge from the apex, creating a striking contrast to the muted coloration of the stems. Highly adapted to arid conditions, rocky soils, and intense sunlight, this species grows extremely slowly but exhibits impressive resilience. Its sculptural form, silvery coloration, and classic desert adaptations make it a highly sought-after collector's item among Chilean cactus enthusiasts.
