Lophophora fricii v. El Amparo (3 cm - 4 cm)
The photo shows one of several Lophophora fricii in cactus substrate. The plants are already potted and healthy. They were grown from seed and are 100% own-rooted.
Lophophora fricii v. El Amparo (El Amparo, Coahuila, Mexico) is a rare and locally restricted form of Lophophora fricii originating from the arid regions around El Amparo in Coahuila. This population is known for its elegant, compact growth form and characteristic tendency to slowly form small groups, giving it a natural, sculptural appearance.
This form typically develops small, flat, button-like shoots with a smooth, soft epidermis in pale blue-green to grey-green tones. The tubercles are rounded and evenly spaced, each areole bearing a small tuft of fine white wool distributed symmetrically across the crown. Mature plants often remain solitary but, under ideal conditions, can form small, dense clumps that accentuate the plant's natural, textured appearance.
During the flowering period, delicate pale pink to light magenta flowers emerge from the central, woolly areoles, creating a beautiful contrast to the muted stem colors. Adapted to calcareous, well-drained soils and extreme drought, this population exhibits slow growth, high drought tolerance, and exceptional resilience. Its precise provenance, elegant form, and site-specific adaptations make Lophophora fricii v. El Amparo a highly sought-after specimen for collectors of rare Lophophora.
