Lophophora Williamsii v. Caespitosa (4 cm - 6 cm)

The photo shows one of several Lophophora williamsii var. caespitosa (4-6 cm) in cactus soil. The plants are already potted and healthy, grown from seed, and are 100% true-to-type. They are already producing many seeds and are naturally capable of flowering. Lophophora williamsii can form groups with a diameter of up to 1 meter or grow individually.

Lophophora williamsii v. Caespitosa (Mexico) is a rare, location-specific form of Lophophora williamsii , known for its natural tendency to form dense, low-growing clumps – hence the name caespitosa (“tufted” or “tufted”). This growth form is particularly striking in its natural habitat and makes it a sought-after population among collectors.

This form develops small, flat, button-like bodies with a smooth, soft epidermis in pale green to grey-green tones. The surface is divided into rounded tubercles, each with a small tuft of white wool at the crown. Over time, the plants form dense clumps that cover the surface of their rocky habitat like a natural carpet.

During its flowering period, Lophophora williamsii v. Caespitosa produces delicate, pale pink to light purple flowers that emerge from the central, woolly areoles, providing a subtle yet beautiful contrast to the green body. Adapted to calcareous, well-drained soils and extremely dry conditions, this population exhibits slow growth, exceptional drought tolerance, and high longevity. Its compact, clumping growth, precise provenance, and elegant appearance make it a highly prized specimen for collectors of rare, site-specific Lophophora. williamsii.

The plants are sold for decorative purposes only.
